“Pandektis – A Digital Thesaurus of Primary Sources

for Greek History and Culture”


Pandektis is a project of the National Hellenic Research Foundation that contains major digital collections of Greek history and civilization.

Free access to eleven integrated and scientifically elaborated online collections produced by the three humanistic Institutes:

Institute of Neohellenic Research (INR):

·         Modern Greek Visual Prosopography (10,000 digitized portraits of Greek men and women (since the fall of Constantinople -1453-)

·         Database of Travel Literature (15th-19th centuries) (texts and illustrations of rare travel literature material on Southeast Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean)

·         Greek Cartography: the Documents (15th-19th centuries) (the cartographic work of Greek mapmakers and Greek publishers)

·         Name Changes of Settlements in Greece (1913-1962, distributed geographically)

·         Heraldic Database of Greece (13th-19th century)

·         Greek Painters After the Fall of Constantinople (1450-1830) (painters, biographical details, index of their works)

·         People employed in Further, Secondary and Primary Education (19th c.) (biographical details & lists of works of teachers)

·         The Greek Press Abroad

·         Industrial Establishments and Workshops in the Aegean (documentary material of the industrial heritage and workshops)

Institute of Byzantine Research (IBR):

·         Monastic Archives. Documents from Mount Athos and Patmos (archival material from the Athonite Archives and from the monastery of Saint Johi the Theologian in Patmos)

Institute of Greek and Roman Antiquity (KERA):

·         Ancient Greek and Latin Inscriptions from Upper Macedonia, Aegean Thrace and Achaia (3 sets of published Greek and Latin inscriptions on stone from Upper Macedonia, Aegean Thrace and the Achaean city of Patras.
